APTB has begun

Hey guys!

Since last month, we’ve gained access to our 500,000m² plot of land, where we’re excited to build our unschooling neighborhood.

We’ve been visiting several times a week to clean up the areas we plan to use for day activities or camping (although we haven’t camped there yet, I did buy 3 bell tents two weeks ago—yay!).

For example, today we dismantled the old, broken chicken coop to make way for a new one. At last year’s Bitcoin conference, several people sponsored items for our project, and one generous donor contributed 50 Euros for materials to build the chicken coop.

Another person donated 15 Euros to buy a chicken, and we’re going to get a female since a friend is giving us her four beloved roosters that need a new home. And you know what that means… fresh, organic eggs! Woohoo!

This week, we’ll head out to shop for materials and start creating a beautiful, cozy, and fun space for our birds.

I find it incredibly fulfilling to work on the land and transform it into whatever we imagine… my creativity has no limits! Woohoo!

Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube will be our go-to for tutorials as we learn new skills. Unschooling is a part of all our lives—it’s not just the kids’ way of learning.

Magda even sent me this great one yesterday:

We’ve also been walking the shelter dogs in Machico several times a week and playing with the cats there. We’re falling in love with so many of them and are already talking about how we can adopt them soon.

In addition, the girls from our unschooling group have been enjoying a creative workshop once a week where they’re learning to sew, along with their weekly horseback riding lessons. The rest of the group has been focusing more on surfing, football, and skating.

Next month, we’re all heading to Porto Santo for a week of surfing and horseback riding—10 kids and 4 adults!

When we return, a company will have cleared most of the existing terraces where we plan to build. It’ll be so exciting to see the expansive spaces we’ll be able to use on our land!

After a hard but fun day of work, what we enjoy most is a bonfire and BBQ.

Here are a few shots from our recent visits to the land:
