Every day is a holiday

Hey guys!

Two days ago was the first Saturday of the month so it was time for our monthly Alternative Education meet-up that we do with families living in or visiting Madeira. It’s not related to APTB but I’m the organiser and the admin in the chat.

We met in a big stunning park in Santo da Serra which has horses, deer and a peacock. 6 families came and we shared a picnic table and sports equipment to have a good time … and boy, did we have a good time!

We talked and played and explored and ran and laughed and screamed and everything was so easy going. Everybody sucked at playing volleyball but we still had fun as hell!

When we were home eating dinner, Lima said that she loved the meet-up so much that she’d like to do the same thing tomorrow. And then I said it:

This is what APTB is going to be like EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Families together, lots of kids around, doing what we love - playing! When you do something you love (hobby or work) it feels like a game, like play and that’s exactly what everybody will be doing at APTB, including the adults. I mean, this suggests that every adult is passionate about their job and I can’t control that but the atmosphere will be heavily influenced by people of all ages who are choosing to do things of their utmost interest and joy and I’m pretty sure this is contagious.

When school kids have summer holidays they spend most of their time playing and following their interests. They are super happy and learn a lot during these months. Kids who don’t go to school experience this on a daily basis.

They basically live their lives like every day’s a holiday!

Making decisions on what to do, do it, learn, repeat. Having fun along the way. Doesn’t that sound amazing? And they’ll just continue doing this for the rest of their lives. Isn’t that a live worth living? I can hear the critiques ‘they’ll be lazy, unsociable, stupid humans who live off other people because they don’t know how to work‘.

But the complete opposite will be the case:

They’ll be highly intrinsically motivated people who have hundreds of thousands of hours of experience interacting with people (socialising), problem-solving, knowing how to think for themselves (critically) - all attributes that make up a human being’s intelligence - who will be extremely valuable assets for countries, companies, communities and families. Because when you want to get good at something you have to put the hours in. The more experience you have, the better you are at something. School kids get around 2 hours a day of problem solving, critical thinking and real-life socialising. Children who don’t go to school get around 12 hours a day of that!

Do I need to say anything else?

I don’t think so ;-)

So, this being said… have you already registered at APTB? If not, click here and get in touch because our in-person community is the best decision you can make for your kids, family, yourself and the world because your children and the next generations of unschoolers will change the world to the better! Booyaa

Big hug

Sylvia :-)
