Learning on steroids
Hey guys!
I recently came across a quote by Karyn Purvis that I had to dig into after reading it:
Play is of the utmost importance for kids because it helps them get ready to learn, stay focused, and figure out how to solve problems. A fascinating study led by Dr. Karyn Purvis showed that when kids play, their brains create new connections much faster than when they're doing other things. It's like they only need 10 to 20 rounds of practice in play compared to 400 repetitions for other activities.
Kids are always learning through play, whether it's playing board games, doing arts and crafts, solving puzzles, or using their imagination. But for play to be a good way to learn, it has to be in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, and it should mean something to the child personally. Helping kids develop skills through play is crucial for them to reach their full potential.
Play is not just fun; it's a vital part of how kids grow and develop. It lets them be creative and connect with the world around them. Play also helps them get better at using their hands and bodies, make decisions, and handle their feelings. Some types of play even make them move around more, which is a great way to stay healthy and avoid bad choices. When kids play, they learn to work together with others, solve problems, and practice making choices that will help them as they grow up.
