Terms of service.

Enrollment

  1. Application and enrollment: To apply to enrol at the APTB, an application form and the APTB Guideline’s online course must be completed, apart from a book purchase of your choice (you’ll find the list of choices in the sign up form), and reading it. If, after a personal or virtual meeting with Sylvia, a suitable place is available, we will then send an email that contains further details about the selected membership, stating the one-time registration fee and monthly tuition required.

  2. Reservation: A membership will only be confirmed upon receipt of a full payment. You will receive a confirmation email once we have received the sign-up fee.

  3. Cancellation: Once you have made the sign-up fee and decide not to take on or continue your membership, we will NOT refund your payment.

Payment of fees and expenses

  1. The monthly tuition must be paid before the 5th of each month

  2. Expenses for group trips that are not included in the membership must be paid in advance

  3. APTB does not pay entrance tickets, fees, meals or transportation costs for group trips

  4. Fees and any agreed supplemental charges will not be reduced or refunded as a result of absence due to illness or otherwise, unless the person cancels at last 24h before the activity

Fee increases and other changes

  1. Inflation: A reasonable increase to fees is made annually for each new calendar year. Fee increases will not apply if payment has already been made in full by the time the new prices are published. Notice of the new fees will be provided in time.

  2. Offer: APTB’s website describes a broad offer of services. However, from time to time it will be necessary to make changes to any aspects of the facilities, including the services we offer, or the classes provided (our learning facilities’ offer will change and adapt in concordance with the children’s wants and needs).

Activities and courses

1. Reservation: Places will only be confirmed as booked upon receipt of a fully completed booking form and full payment.

2. Consent: The Parent must consent to participation in any trips and activities outside of our premises.

3. Withdrawal Policy: If an applicant withdraws before its commencement, they will receive a refund amounting to 100% of the fee paid.

4. Refund Requests: No refund will be given once the applicant has started their membership.

5. Course/Workshops/Retreats/Trips/Activity: Some of our courses/workshops/retreats etc are not included in the membership or will require a discounted payment for members. There is no obligation to join any of the out-of-the-membership activities. We reserve the right to cancel a course or activity if attendance numbers are insufficient to make it viable. In such cases, a full refund will be provided.

6. Limited Availability: Some of our courses and activities have limited availability. In these instances, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Information for people involved in the learning facilities

  1. Supervision: Children under 4 years old must be accompanied and supervised by their own caregiver. This can be a parent, other family members older than 16 years or a nanny. The caregiver must be registered at APTB. Please email info@aplacetobe.me to ask for further details. The caregiver does not pay a sign up fee.

  2. Phones and mobile devices: Due to younger children's protection, older kids with mobile phones are not allowed to show kids under the age of 12 images or videos that could potentially have a negative psychological impact, harm their body-image, desensitise them, lead to behavioural changes or distort their view on reality.

  3. Parents acknowledge their responsibility to safeguard their children and other minors accessing their children's mobile devices or computers from potentially harmful content. This includes but is not limited to installing appropriate software, filters, or parental controls to regulate and monitor online activities. Parents are encouraged to stay informed about the online behavior of minors under their care and to take necessary actions to ensure their safety and well-being while using digital devices. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in their children not being allowed to use their devices at APTB.

  4. Food and drink: Until we have building permission, we won’t be providing a kitchen or food for anybody. Children bring their own food and drinks. Water will be provided by APTB. Once we have fruit and vegetable gardens, all kids can help themselves to these.

  5. Fire: Fires are only permitted to be set in designated areas and in the company of a person who has been certified to do so.

  6. Fit to use batch: Any person involved in the learning facilities, no matter what age, is required to undertake an instructional introduction by an experienced other and receive a batch of ‘fit to use on my own’ to handle any equipment, machines or tool that pose a potential danger when used wrongly.

Mobility aids

  1. Prams and buggies: Buggies or prams can be taken onto the land but note that the terrain will make it difficult to manoeuvre

  2. Wheelchairs: As for now, we don’t have wheelchair friendly access. Hopefully in the near future we will be able to welcome people in wheelchairs.

Medical care

  1. Parents and children agree that APTB may administer any non-prescription medication or first aid as is deemed appropriate in emergency situations and to seek medical treatment when required. It is important that APTB is made aware of any welfare, medical conditions, mental health issues or disabilities as soon as possible so that the child can be cared for appropriately. It is therefore a condition of the child joining and remaining at APTB that a medical questionnaire in respect of the child is completed and submitted during the application process. Members also agree to notify APTB of special dietary needs, allergies or other medical conditions where special arrangements have to be made. APTB must be notified of any changes to health, medical or other relevant information related to the child as soon as they occur.

  2. Parents should be aware that charges for Madeiran Health Service treatment may apply, subject to local policies. Parents are required to obtain adequate insurance prior to starting their membership for all medical care.

Liability for Member Safety

  1. In utilizing our services, members acknowledge and accept that the service provider holds no responsibility for any injuries or fatalities that may occur during the use of our platform. While we strive to provide a safe and secure environment for all users, members engage with our services at their own risk. This includes but is not limited to any physical or mental harm sustained while participating in activities facilitated by the platform. Users are encouraged to exercise caution and take appropriate safety measures when interacting with other members or utilizing the services provided. The service provider shall not be liable for any damages, injuries, or losses incurred as a result of using our platform.

Corrective measures and exclusion:

  1. Consistent breaches of rules, recurring bullying, or instances of genuine violence might prompt APTB to temporarily or permanently remove kids from the premises. Prior to such action, kids are provided with multiple opportunities to rectify their behaviour.

  2. Adults - facilitators, parents or guests - who continuously disrespect the children’s right for self-determination, will be banned from the learning facilities.

Damage to property and fines

  1. The Parent and child are liable for the cost of any breakages, loss or damage caused by the child to either APTB premises or accommodation provided by us. Breakages, loss or damage in learning facilities will be discussed and dealt with by the community.

Complaints

  1. If you have cause for concern as to a matter of safety or care of your child you must inform APTB without undue delay. Use our email address info@aplacetobe.me or speak directly to the manager.

Changes to these terms and conditions

  1. We may change or add to these Terms and Conditions from time to time for legal or other substantive reasons or in order to assist the proper delivery of service at APTB. We will provide reasonable notice of any such modifications before the changes are to take effect.
